Challenge

For creative professionals, nothing is as frustrating as having the creative process impaired by technological limitations. 8fish editors had reached their frustration limitation with the “sneaker net” system they employed – editors running from one workstation to the next to copy project files.

Solution

To resolve project tracking headaches and eliminate the need to copy files from one workstation to another, 8fish welcomed Small Tree’s Ethernet-based GraniteSTOR solution, unique OS X networking technology supporting multiple Ethernet ports tightly integrated with Apple’s built in file sharing system, AFP.  Featuring a PEG4 4-port Ethernet card and Edge-corE ES4524D 24-port Gigabit Ethernet switch, GraniteSTOR offered the throughput needed at the budget-friendly cost it desired.  Today, 8fish’s six workstations are able to read, write, copy, digitize, play and render files concurrently, making work more enjoyable for the studio’s editing team.
