Creating Song Mixes In Pro Tools
Pro Tools can be an efficient program to use when mixing tracks for songs in the transport, mixing, or edit windows. When creating song mixes in Pro Tools, you should work on one track at a time, starting with basic beat tracks and moving progressively forward. You will be manipulating various aspects of the tracks with the compressor settings, which has a multitude of settings to tighten and tone the different sounds of the tracks. For example, you can manipulate the tightness of the kick drum to its "Tight Kick" factory setting, then that setting can be tweaked and manipulated to create the perfect sound. This process can take place for all aspects of the song, making sure each track is optimized for its best sound. Keep a sharp ear out to make sure the tracks compliment each other properly; for example, you may need to equalize some of the tracks with a simple 4-band equalizer to keep them from dominating the others. You want the tracks to work well together, and not sound like they're stacked on top of each other.
Once you've balanced out the different tracks with compressors and equalizers, you can bounce the mix to a track to see how it works together. If you select File > Bounce > Track, you can choose the audio quality. For CD quality, choose 16 bit and 44.1khz. Once you click OK, it will be bounced to one stereo file, and you've completed your song mix.
